| Hannibal Clinic Offers Free Kidney Screenings - Thursday, February 16, 2012Hannibal Clinic will conduct a free health screening for people at increased risk for kidney disease throughout March at Hannibal Clinic. Hours for the free kidney screening are: Tuesdays from 9am-noon and Fridays from noon-5pm. The screening is part of National Kidney Month and is designed to identify and educate people at risk – those with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease.
“We know that if we start early with education, detection and if necessary, medical intervention, we can often postpone the onset of kidney disease or kidney failure and in some cases, even prevent it from ever developing,” says Hannibal Clinic Nephrologist, Dr. Mark Greenwell.
Screening participants will have their weight and blood pressure checked. Medical professionals will collect blood and urine samples from those who require further testing. A physician will review the results and communicate those results to participants.
More than 26 millions Americans have chronic kidney disease and most don’t even know it. Millions more are at risk. To register for the free screening or to learn more, call Hannibal Clinic at 573-231-3851. |
| Hannibal Clinic Achieves Accreditations - Tuesday, January 17, 2012Hannibal Clinic has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Mammogram, Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
CT scanning — sometimes called CAT scanning — is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.
MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. The Hannibal Clinic’s MRI is the only accredited MRI in Hannibal.
Mammograms are an important part of a standard breast health examination. Since mammograms detect abnormalities in the breast, they can help your physician find early changes caused by cancerous growths. Mammograms also show lumps that are too small to feel during self breast exams.
MRI of the Breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.
Nuclear Medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material, ingested by the patient, to diagnose and treat a variety of disease, including many types of cancers, heart disease, and certain other abnormalities within the body.
PET, also called PET imaging or a PET scan, is a type of nuclear medicine imaging.
The American College of Radiology awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee of Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
“The staff at Hannibal Clinic has worked very hard to obtain and maintain this accreditation,” said Dr. Michael Bukstein, President and CEO of Hannibal Clinic. “We are proud of them, their work and dedication to quality and their commitment to making the patient come first. Providing the highest quality care including accreditation is an integral part of putting the patient first.” |
